How long will it take to get my finished mix?Delivery time for a mixdown will depend on the amount of tracks in your song and how many songs you want delivered. We aim to complete a mixdown in no more than 10 working days. However, this is only a guide as more complicated and intricate songs may require longer.
-
How long until I get my finished master? We aim to complete masters within 3 working days.
-
Why should I choose Mason Mastering over a cheaper subscription mastering service that uses AI?AI mastering may produce a soulless, formulaic sound lacking the nuanced touch of human engineers, diminishing the emotional connection with listeners and sacrificing the creative adaptability of skilled professionals. At Mason Mastering, we pride ourselves on our need to understand the vision an artist has for their music.
-
Why should I choose Mason Mastering to mix or master my music over somewhere else? While more well known studios and mastering houses have some very talented audio engineers, we feel their communication and need to understand the music they are working on is lacking. The process of using such companies can feel very detached and indifferent. At MM, our workflow opposes this common ethos and replaces it with a need to understand the music we're asked to work on. With the songs we've worked on so far, we've made sure that artist feels involved in the process as we aim to distinguish what their records mean to them and the feeling they want to achieve in the listener. This achieves a mix or master that has all the quality and sounds as close to what the artist wants as possible.
-
What should I consider when exporting my mixdown for mastering?Ensure no audible distortions or clipping. Use lossless formats like WAV or AIFF and export at the original bit depth and sample rate that you created the project in. Keep -3 dB to -6 dB of headroom on the master. Disable any master bus processing. Create a Reference Master for us with any specific instructions. Ensure mix sounds good in mono. Check Crossfades and Edits.
-
Will you tell me if you think my mixdown could be improved before I submit my record for mastering with you?Of course! We will let you know if that bass drum is a little too prominent, or that bass line is a bit boxy. We understand not everyone can afford the kind of equipment we possess to check the mix properly. Therefore, we will let you know of any problems before we get to work on your master.
-
How much will it cost for you to master my record?Mastering with us is set at a fixed rate of £30.00.
-
How much will it cost for you to mix my record? Our mixing services can cost from £50 for a single mix. -
Should I pick Stem Mastering or just normal? In essence, stem mastering offers a more granular level of control by working with submixes of audio elements, whereas traditional mastering deals with the overall stereo mix. Stem mastering is often chosen when there are specific challenges in the mix that need to be addressed separately, or when the client wants a more tailored and detailed approach to the final master. Traditional mastering is still widely used for many projects where the mix is well-balanced and requires minimal adjustments at the individual element level.
-
How do I send my project audio files to you for mixing?Select Tracks: - Choose the tracks you want to bounce. This could be individual tracks (if you've purchase a mixdown), groups (if you've purchased a stem master), or the entire mix (if you've purchased a master). - Check and adjust the levels of your tracks to ensure they are balanced and not clipping. Mute or Disable Effects: - Consider muting or disabling any effects on the tracks that you want to bounce unless those effects are crucial to the sound you want. Set Bounce Parameters: - Find the bounce/export option in your DAW. This is usually in the File or Export menu. Set the parameters for your bounce, such as file format (WAV, AIFF), bit depth (24-bit is common), sample rate, and file location. Name and Save: - Give your bounced files meaningful names and choose a location to save them. Bounce/Export: - Initiate the bounce/export process. Your DAW will render the selected tracks or the entire project into audio files.
